Project KAVACAM | Final Report

Namaste dear friends

On the 10th May 2021, we had launched Project KAVACAM, to help raise funds to support a local hospital in India to help battle COVID-19. The campaign ran from 10 - 15 May 2021. For more information on the campaign please click here.

Our goal was to raise funds from our students and well-wishers from around the world, who are part of the Viniyoga® tradition, to help supply protective medical equipment like facemasks, hand sanitisers and gloves to the Medical staff (Doctors, Nurses and Ward assistants), as well as arrange for life-saving equipment like Oxygen concentrators for the patients admitted in the hospital.

While we were aware that big funds are being organized by the government and other NGOs, we felt that much of that money collected will be spent on administrative costs, and only a part of it will reach the end-user, and hence we wanted to offer direct support to the hospital. The hospital we had chosen to support is Omandurar Government Hospital and it is located at Wallahjah Road, Anna Salai, Tamil Nadu 600002, India.

The head doctor of this hospital, Dr Ramesh Mahalingam, hasn’t been home in five months. Read about him here - http://toi.in/Q-9Oqb/a31gj

We are extremely humbled by the overwhelming response we have received from Viniyoga Patrons all over the world. We not only reached our target within the first 24 hours, but actually raised more than three times the intended target!

The campaign's success is a testimony to the strong commitment of each and every donor to help India and the deep trust they have placed in us to organise and execute this project. We are deeply touched in our heart!

DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS

Owing to the overwhelming success of the project, we could extend the scope of our donations to include Oxygen Concentrators, CPAP Masks, Flow Meters, Gloves, Face Shields and Oxygen Masks.

Step 1

On 14 May 2021, an order for 5 Oxygen Concentrators was placed through C.S.K HEALTH V CARE, and they were immediately delivered through a local courier to the hospital, and collected by Dr Ramesh Mahalingam. The original intention was to order five of them with a capacity of 5 litres each. However, thanks to our successful fundraising campaign, we could afford to get them five machines of 9 litres capacity each, which will help more patients. These machines are not only very expensive, but also in high demand owing to the number of persons suffering from COVID-19 in India currently.

You can find enclosed a set of photographs that shows the proof of delivery. Kindly note that not only since India is under strict lockdown, but also owing to security reasons, only the local courier persons were allowed to visit the hospital. So the quality of photographs may not be professional, as these were taken by the courier staff.

Step 2

On 17 May 2021, an order for 40 CPAP Masks, 26 Flow Meters, 210 boxes of Gloves, 2160 Face Shields, 500 Oxygen masks and 430 bottles of Hand Sanitizer will be placed and delivered over the next two days.

On 17 May 2021, 210 Gloves Boxes, 2160 Face Shields, 430 bottles of Hand Sanitisers were delivered to the hospital as part of the shipment. On 18 May 2021, 26 Flow Meters were also received by the hospital. The remainder of the items (CPAP Masks and Oxygen Masks) was delivered on 20 May 2021.

We sincerely thank you for your support and hope that all these small droplets will help India overcome this horrible pandemic! We are truly touched by the overwhelming response we have received from all of you around the world. May God Bless you all!

We are sincerely grateful that the Divine gave us a chance to serve humanity in this time of crisis through all of your support.

Namaste!
