What is prenatal yoga?
Prenatal yoga is a popular prenatal class for expectant mothers in Singapore and worldwide. Prenatal yoga contextualises aspects of yoga including stretching, mental focus, and deep or focused breathing to help relax and aid pregnant women along their journey to childbirth. Some women who attend prenatal yoga classes enjoy the relaxing sensation, whereas others utilise the yogic methods such as deep breathing during their labour and childbirth.
Viniyoga offers prenatal yoga classes to help ease and support expectant mothers through their pregnancy journey. Our private prenatal yoga classes offer expectant mothers a space for relaxation, growth, and introspection during this exciting period in their lives. To ensure the safety of all participants during the COVID-19 pandemic, all Viniyoga prenatal classes are currently conducted online only.
How does prenatal yoga help pregnant women?
There are various general health benefits of yoga for pregnant women including:
Strengthening core and pelvic muscles needed for childbirth
Improving muscle flexibility to prepare for childbirth
Reducing stress and anxiety during pregnancy for increased mental and physical wellbeing
Improving sleep or stress during pregnancy
Alleviating common pregnancy symptoms (e.g. lower back pain, nausea, headaches, shortness of breath)
Specific practices of yoga may have individualised health benefits for pregnant practitioners. Get in touch with us today to find out how our private prenatal yoga classes can help guide and prepare you for labour and childbirth. Viniyoga’s private classes allow practitioners to experience individualised care and attention from the instructor, providing an intimate space to move and get in touch with your body without feeling self-aware. Our online classes enable you to attend according to your own schedule - ideal for expectant mothers who are busy juggling doctor’s appointments and their daily lives.
What makes Viniyoga’s prenatal yoga classes unique?
Our prenatal yoga classes incorporate Viniyoga’s signature yogic techniques and holistic approach to achieve the practitioner’s desired health and wellness benefits. The first class starts with an interview with Dr Kausthub Desikachar, the senior most exponent of Viniyoga today globally. The expectant mother’s current condition and capabilities are evaluated, and her priorities and goals for the class clearly defined. Each class is personalized and individualized, and the practitioner will receive an outline of the practice to use at home.
After a few weeks, a follow-up session is scheduled to evaluate the practitioner’s progress and feedback will be exchanged. The practice may be modified to keep up with the expectant mother’s needs, up until her expected delivery date. After delivery and childbirth, a post-natal programme may be suggested depending on the needs of the new mother.
Prenatal yoga can help pregnant women deal with fears related to childbirth and their own changing body. While these fears are common, speaking about them is not - Viniyoga provides an avenue to address and overcome these concerns so that you can feel confident and comfortable through every step in your pregnancy journey.
