Patañjali's Yogasūtra I.14
I.14 - sa tu dīrgha-kāla-nairantarya-satkāra-ādara-āsevitaḥ dṛḍha-bhūmiḥ
It is only when this [practice] is followed for a long time, without interruptions, done with positive attitude and eagerness, that it gains firm ground.
There will always be a tendency to start practice with enthusiasm and energy, and a desire for immediate results. But, the continuing pressures of everyday life and the enourmous resistance of the mind often leads us to succumb to human weaknesses. While all this is acceptable, the Sütra emphasises the need to approach practice steadily with a positive, self-empowered attitude and with a long term view towards eventual and sustained success.
