The Future is Female!

by Dr Kaustubha Desikachar

Reread it, my friends. It is not the future of the female. It is, in fact, the future is female!

The dawn of the divine feminine is imminent. Globally we clearly see the signs. The leaders of so many powerful countries are powerful women who are at ease with their jobs and excel in them. New Zealand, Germany, Nepal, Taiwan, Estonia, Taiwan and Finland, to name a few. At current count, twenty-four countries are privileged to have a woman as their head of state, be it as president or as prime minister. And most recently, The United States, for the first time in history, swore in its first-ever female Vice President.

Global businesses are also witnessing an increasing number of women in senior management roles where vital decisions are made. This positive trend is gaining momentum. And this is the most beautiful thing.

Women seem to handle these responsibilities very differently from men. Compassion, empathy and care, which form an essential part of leadership, seem to come naturally to them.

As we move into the modern era, these are crucial leadership traits which will nourish the contemporary population into the future. The world is tired of battles, conflicts and other patriarchal issues, often based on the ego, a very masculine trait. These women have demonstrated through their example that, far from being the weaker sex, they are the stronger.

We in the Viniyoga tradition are delighted that women occupy critical positions in our lineage. Our senior-most teacher, Menaka Desikachar, is a woman, as are most of our trainers. Almost all our staff are women. A vast majority of our current students are female, and we are delighted that our future representatives will be therefore mostly women. I am also honoured that I am a father to a most amazing daughter Śraddhā.

It is a divine blessing that many women have played and continue to play such an essential role in my life. While my father is my most important teacher, who has taught me invaluable things, it is women in my life who have made me a better human being. My grandmother, mother, daughter, ex-wife, galpals and so many of my female students have taught me intangible lessons through patience, example and compassion.

Every time I have fallen, it is women who have picked me up, strengthened me and helped me learn the essential values of life. I salute them for this and am pleased to witness the feminine power return - Śrī-śakti.

It is time that we not merely acknowledged them, but instead honoured it.

Remember, they don't need protection; they need their space. So take time to look around and notice the powerful women around you, and show them the respect they deserve!

The future is female!

Namaste!
